Keeping the forum editor alive
« on: February 03, 2016, 10:18:25 pm »
Is there any possibility of keeping the editor in which I wrote this alive, so that I do not suddenly lose 30 minutes worth of  input to a subject under discussion?

I am caught out about every six months, when I remember to use a text editor again.

I never had an issue with this editor, never mind how long I need to write the message.

If you mean, you get logged out of the forum:
On the login mask you can specify how long, until it logs you out. Or check the box to stay logged in forever.

Otherwise there is a browser plug in that may help you.
It is called "Lazarus" (no joke).

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/lazarus-form-recovery/

Or google "lazarus form recovery". There seems to be version for chrome.

Does this plug-in also good for the bug tracker which is particularly annoying with logouts after long writing?

I always copy/paste lengthy texts into an editor (Notepad++) before pressing any buttons or relying on the browser to handle button presses correctly.
Have had this problem too many times in the past with other web-'applications'.
It is a workaround, but it saved me from a lot of frustration....
(Or even just pressing Ctrl-A-C from time to time can save you if you work under Window$...)
All posts based on: Win10 (Win64); Lazarus 3_4  (x64) 25-05-2024 (unless specified otherwise...)

probably. It recovers any form or form field.

I didnt have any issues with it yet.

Just tested, it offers me the last 20 things I typed on the tracker.

The bug tracker never logs me out though. So it probably also has an option.

eny, yes, I do this too. But whenever I write a long text in bugtracker, interrupted a few times in between, I click the submit button faster than the copy-to-clipboard comes to my mind.

Martin_fr, the bug tracker offers little configuration options to the normal user. I do have developer status in a few sections which allows me at least to edit the submitted text, but a normal user can't even do that.

I dont think it is an option to a specific user group. I dont have anything in the settings one logged in.

But on the login, you can check: "Remember my login in this browser"

And unless you have a fixed IP with your ISP, do not check the "limit to IP"

With that I have last logged in some month ago, and since stayed logged in. (Of course on my private PC only, that is secured against access by anyone but me)

do not check the "limit to IP"
Ah, this could have been the reason...

Martin,

Thanks for the plug-in suggestion. I am on Linux Mint and do have a fixed IP address, but this seems to be the best solution.

If it happens, going "back" and copy pasting editor input sometimes works for me in Mozilla.

I sue the "Preview" button quite often.  This way, session is updated too.
