Thanks Leledumbo the output is 904 kB, the common root director is  /usr/share/lazarus/1.6RC2/  the 'ideintf' only appears as a subdirectory 'components/ideintf/'.
Yes, it should be there. Can you just ignore the message? Probably there's a bug in the checking code.

Thanks very much Leledumbo for your persistent help.

I found a hidden directory that had an "ide config file" which referred to the Ubuntu Repository Lazarus 1.0.10 version, I deleted the directory and uninstalled the Lazarus application, then the reinstall recreated the hidden directory and a clean installed Lazarus resulted. 

This is NOT the stuff a new USER should be exposed to. My experience trying to get Lazarus up may help the maintainers to improve the software.
