Best location for .lpk files
« on: September 20, 2015, 12:08:15 am »
Hi.
I would like some advice on where to put  package files (.LPK) and the source files for newly created components.

Would it be best to do the development in a sub directory under the components directory and then leave the files there - when testing and installation are completed?

I am using Lazarus 1.4.2 on Windows 7. Any advice would be appreciated.

Some people put their own components into the "components" folder of the Lazarus installation. But I don't like that because from time to time I install a new version, and then I would have to copy my components to the new location. Instead of this, I have the components in my development folder which houses all my projects, local repositories, and my own and third-party components.

I put them in their own folder, grouped under the same folder outside lazarus directory. I have 2 Lazarus installation (latest stable + trunk) and I need to share the packages, so it's a bad idea to put them in one of the components folder.

Thank you for the replies.  :)
Currently I have the files in the original project directory, which is outside the Lazarus directory. I will leave them there.
