Serial communication

How do I communicate with the COM1 my computer? I want to get the data received from a serial device.

I'm actually using Synaser at this very moment. First time I use it and it... works... kind of. I was having some weird problems, that could be my own lack of experience with it.

If you go with Synaser, then I can say:

Both things are for arduinos because that's just what I was doing, but the library should work for other things as well.

Note: pay attention to the waitingData call (as opposed to CanRead on the example on the first link).
