shell('aplay sound.wav 2> /dev/null &');

works on unix/linux after uses unix; if you don't want all those problems with other library based solutions. :-X

OK how do you control the playing after that? eg
o how do you change the volume for that sound
o how do you pause it
o How do you unpause continue
o How do you (un)mute.
o how do you draw an oscilloscope for the  sound it is on speakers

OK you get the point I guess. It is an almost acceptable solution if you want to play a short sound once but other than that......
