Cannot unpack Freepascal docs in html or pdf format

I'm trying to obtain the docs in both html and pdf format for fpc 2.6.2. No problem downloading from the ftp site, but no matter whether I get the .zip, .tar.gz, or tar.gz archive format, on my OS X 10.9 Mac I cannot successfully extract the actual documentation. E.g., with the .zip file, if I unarchive it I just get a .zip.zip file! I've tried several different unarchive utilities, including command-line tar. What could be wrong?

Incomplete download. Try getting from sourceforge, the ftp is somewhat slow and susceptible to connection lost.

And, with older FTPs, make sure you choose "binary" protocol.
