Another vote for Mint here.

Been using it for a month after Laz just stopped working on Ubuntu for no reason (it crashes the x-server apparently). Mint seems to be a lot more friendly with virtual machines than Ubuntu, the key being Unity and a VM with limited GPU power.

But again. I have to admit, Windows + Lazarus is the best solution there is today,I think.  :D

Here the disto-statistic review :

Mint (branch of Ubuntu) seems to be the great winner...

I use (now) Mint MATE on my slow netbook and im very happy...
All the best of Ubuntu without the worst (unity and friends)....

LMDE (Linux Mint Debian Edition) with Cinnamon runs Lazarus quite fine for me...

Did you even try any of the distros recommended to you? Basically anything but Ubuntu + Unity is good for Lazarus.
I do (almost) all my Lazarus development on Linux because Lazarus and the whole tool chain (Git, patch etc.) work better there.
Mostly Lazarus trunk and FPC 3.2 on Manjaro Linux 64-bit.

Agreed. The FPC/Lazarus supplied patch.exe is just awful on Windows.

I use Debian. In my opinion, Debian Unstable (sid) is more stable than any version of Ubuntu.

I install FPC using the packages from the Debian unstable repository. I install Lazarus itself using Lazarus provided RPMs via Debian's Alien program using Alien's default settings. I do that for two reasons. The Lazarus packages in the Debian repository are often older than I care for, and the Lazarus provided .debs are built with Ubuntu. They give me all kinds of grief when used with Debian.

FWIW I used the XFCE desktop, not Gnome or KDE.

Debian 'Testing' + Xfce.

:o :o The same thinking , i install fpc from APT and use lazarus from svn

I want a stable Linux dist that really works with Lazarus.
Linux Mint, OpenSUSE and FreeBSD (with Gnome2 or JWM desktops) works really well here.

I use Sabayon (cinnamon and kde) now and I've used LinuxMint (cinnamon) the last year.
Both very stable if you like cinnamon, LinuxMint is a more stable system.
Sabayon (gentoo based): hesitant as far from debian, I was positively surprised (not only with regard to lazarus), now this is my primary distro.

I have used Lazarus on Linux Mint for 2 years now with no major issues.

Upgraded recently to Petra Cinnnamon but now I regret it. The laz editor is slow and jerky on it. And cinnamon over all feels clumsily slow.

Will switch to Xfce as soon as I get around to it.
