Upgraded recently to Petra Cinnnamon but now I regret it. The laz editor is slow and jerky on it. And cinnamon over all feels clumsily slow.

I use Linux Mint 16 and Cinnamon with no problems, except that I have noticed mouse control is inaccurate. I'll try Mate.

I tried Ubuntu with Lazarus and it was a sad history!

Lazarus has nothing to do with sad stories about Ubuntu after WIndows.

Download Lazarus source archive, extract it, "make bigide" in a terminal, and that's all what's needed. Just launch Lazarus from that dir.

A really sad story would be about compiling KDevelop(C++).

Android will be the only solution for Lazarus in my opinion.

And you are the only person in the world who needs that.  :)

No trouble with debian 6 & 7 (i386, amd64, arm) here. As far as you use backports repository, for the required library & library development dependency.

I think mint & ubuntu have no problem either.

Forget about Android, just choose any normal Linux distro.
Ubuntu is picky about videocards, refuses to install on earlier notebooks with a weak card.
I can't install it on my small notebook, I prefer latest Ubuntu on desktop.

Any Linux distro has a quite a learning curve, but once you grasp it, you won't look back on Windows.

and network cards. I'm planning on buying a mid level notebook and install manjaro instead. It has been a great experience on desktop. mhwd rocks!
