I'm 33, so I'm not the oldest one, hehe.
I use Lazarus for only a few months, but I used Delphi for more than 10 years. I started on Atari 800 XL with BASIC, then Turbo BASIC. I tried also LOGO. In around 1992 I started to use GW-BASIC on PC, later QBASIC and then in 1997 Turbo Pascal for DOS. Meanwhile I've learned C++ and Java. But still the most I love Pascal language and I'm very impressed looking at Lazarus!

Seems like most Lazarian here are veteran programmers, eh? I wonder where those kids and students who use Lazarus in their school are...

Hi

The problem is that, at least in my country, no employer thinks that Lazarus is a serious option for development.
I regret it, of course, but it would be a professional suicide for students and young unemployed to spend too much time with Lazarus.
Old guys like me can afford to loose time on this extraordinary IDE (and are happy with it).

The main reason is that it appear as not stable enough.
It's a matter of reputation, other IDE are not much better, though, we all know that.
That's why I think the most important thing to improve in Lazarus, today, is reliability, stability and documentation.

well im 16 but i love lazarus and fpc.. in school i started pascal and i will try my best to learn it to the maximum .. before few months i asked a question .. not here..
Whats the best programing language who is worth to know .. they told me .. java c++ python .. and i asked is it worth pascal? they told me .. pascal is not used much but you should learn that first and then begin some advanced languages.. and i respect that ... i know that today .. most used language is java .. but still i will learn pascal first .. after all, most functions are same but their name is different between the languages..

truth is painful isn't it?

This is an answer from someone who only knows the outermost skin of Pascal, probably having basic Pascal course with Turbo Pascal but never really create any worthy program with it. Most programmers are lazy, and only those who are really interested can have a broad view instead of just becoming market followers. Ask those people about Pascal classes or units, I believe only 1 out of 100 will say know, and 1 out of 1000 understands and capable of using them. Modern Pascal, if you know it good enough, is a superset of Java. You can do everything that Java can do in Pascal, sometimes in a much more elegant way, while the other way around is not true.

maybe thats the truth, i still cant comment anything since i never actually coded something in other languages but pascal..
i still dont know if other languages are more efficient, harder or anything else ..

it doesn't really mater how efficient easy or better pascal is, the truth is that pascal is not used very much in today's programming world everyone has his/her preferences with C being the go to language for all purpose development and java for multiplatform. Everything else is what the statisticians refer to as the rest. No one can predict the future but I can say with some certenty that cobol will not make a comeback and pascal at this point is on the road for the same but not there yet.
