7zip component

Hi everyone!

I would like to ask if there is any work done, converting the C source code of 7zip32 to lazarus

I know there is delphi unit that uses 7zip32.dll - but as we all know - dll's are only a waste of space for windows users..

I am developing a freeware project that would really benefit from an open source compression algorithim, and I think most of us here would in fact see the value of such tool.

I was thinking the same thing.  7Zip has the best compression I have ever seen.  I thought of using it (once ported to fpc)  with a lazarus help system, to compress the help file shipped with a lazarus application.

I have to agree, a 7Zip component would be great.

@nunobrito: Why exactly do we all know that DLLs are just a waste of space on Windows?
Did you try to remove all those space wasting DLLs from your system by chance?

For me, a translation would only make sense when it'll cover more platforms than just Windows.
