Screen clutter - how to turn it off?
« on: March 25, 2013, 09:57:25 pm »
Hi All,

OK, well maybe not screen clutter to everyone, but to me it is too busy.  :D

New to Lazerus and I did some searching, scoured the "Options" and Help reading but I can't seem to find out how to turn off the gray boxes around the procedures etc.

Also, I do not need the red boxes around the begin end pairs etc.

Less is more for me. Been programming for 35+ years and know that I like a clean sheet!

Do we have to do these three-question Verifications for every post????

Thanks

The 3 questions are for your 5 posts only.
 After that you are assumed not to be a spammer, and will no longer need to answer them.

* Grey boxes (aka all occurrences of word under caret):
Menu: Tools > Options > Editor > Display > "Markup and Matches"

Check "Disable Timer for Markup"

You can still assign it to a key, to toggle it for a word of your choice. But it sounds like you will not need that either.

BTW: here you also find the setting for () bracket pairs.

* Red Boxes
Menu: Tools > Options > Editor > Display > Colors

There is a Tree with elements that get colored. The 2nd block is Named "Text". It contains "Word Brackets"  (overall about 20 iest entry in tree)

Uncheck all coloring, and the highlight is gone
Menu: Tools > Options > Editor > Display > "Markup and Matches"

You might also not want the divider lines, between procedures:
Menu: Tools > Options > Editor > Display > "Divider Drawing"

And the blue line that appears on top of the editor, showing the name of the current procedure/class (if the top of it is scrolled out) can be configured at
Menu: Tools > Options > Editor > Display > Display
Checkbox "Show class/Proc hint"

If you struggle with auto-indentation, also check the settings on the first page in the "codetool" section (in addition to Editor settings)

Thanks for great detail and speedy reply Martin. Much appreciated. I had looked through the options and nothing seemed to jump out at me but I will go through them again with your posts at the ready.

U'm, other than the Letters/Numbers the other two questions appear to be the same so a script could easily fill in two out of three. That begs the question, why have the last two. Just more of an annoyance than verification as this tired old mind sees it. I am not complaining as I always play by the rules, but logic is a strong point with me. ;)

OK, all looks good but could not find the last "Display" in
Options - Editor - Display - Display.

But it is looking much MUCH better. Shout intentional! :)

One other question, the compiler progress and error message window does not always come to the top and I have to shorten the editor window so I can click on it to bring it to the top. Is there a "always to top" thingy option somewhere? Dare I say it is a bug??? {gasp}

Thanks.

The double "display" was a typo...

About the compiler-progress.  I don't use it, but it sounds unexpected.

Are you on Windows?

Yup, win7pro 64. I installed Lazerus-32.

Any way to slow down the mouse clicks? (hijacking thread) :O

I am old and can't match the speed of you young'ns.
