  • I like bugs.
I too love linux, i had used many distros till date, but one thing is there which cannot be denied. Windows is on top, and is on priority for a developer. So form a developer point of view, a developer can not leave windows for a particular AV. Hope Kaspersky adds lazarus/fpc to their safe lists.

Sure, it is important to support a Windows version of your application.
I myself  boot Windows sometimes to test if my Lazarus code works there. The actual development happens on Linux. I just feel more comfortable working on it, especially for development.
I don't need to care about antivirus, nor any commercials that install semi-automatically to my browser and desktop. On Linux I can concentrate on my work instead of tweaking the system. Yes, it sounds like a paradox, traditionally Linux required tweaking more than Windows.
I can only say: please try a modern Linux distro.

One interesting development is that Windows will not be the dominant platform soon. Computing power fits in small space now. Tablets and other portable gadgets will take over the normal computer user land.
Windows will survive in graphics, audio/video, CAD and other design stations, but even there it has heavy competition.

Now it seems like Android is taking over the world but I don't believe it will. There is no easy way to make cross-platform native SW that supports Android. I believe iOS and Android will both be strong but there will be alternatives.
MS Windows will be a niche. Nobody seems to remember how qiuckly things change when the time is right. In my country, most companies that used Delphi have moved to Visual Studio and .NET. It is an extremely stupid move in my opinion. Cross-platform will be the thing of future and Visual Studio will not support it.

Mostly Lazarus trunk and FPC 3.2 on Manjaro Linux 64-bit.

Sure, I had always keep linux handy, Ubuntu and fedora are my best choices.

It is really supid move in my opinion too. But some policy of delphi is also responsible for this. Hope FPC and Lazarus will change this scene soon.
please have a look at this graphs.

Exactly what I did (except I'm too lazy to test on real Windows, I usually only test with wine) :D
