Installing Lazarus in Ubuntu 13.04
« on: April 28, 2013, 03:00:10 am »
The installation gave me an error message saying the source directory was not found.  I need detailed instruction how to set up this folder.  The ubuntu file manager is confusing to me.  I opened the Environment Files window and tried several things to define the folder for my source files with no success.  I am not sure whether the folders were hidden or I did not have permission.

Please provide direction on creating the folder and accessing it with Lazarus and the file manager.

Did you install fpc-src package from package manager? The folder should normally be in /usr/share/fpcsrc/<fpcversion>

I trying to run a program in 64 bit Ubuntu that I ran in 32 bit Windows.  I do not recall using packages before.  I did not see anything that looked like fpc-src under the package heading within Lazarus.  Is there a file I need to download and install?  What or where is the package manager?

Leledumbo meant something like synaptic or software manager or whatever the tool is called on Ubuntu that lets you install software packages.

Please indicate exactly what you installed: .deb files? If so, which ones - where did you download them? Some software package from the package manager?

Have you already looked at the documentation, e.g. on the wiki? Which page? What didn't work for you?

Thanks to all for the suggestions.  I acquired Lazarus from the Ubuntu Software Center.  It was not obvious that I had to install two Lazarus programs.  I installed all the optional files for each and now have the fpc source directory.
