TZVDateTimePicker Test for NULL

I have a TZVDateTimePicker , If the date value is null other code that references the date blows up.

How can I test the date for null before I use it?

You can use

if not ZVDateTimePicker1.DateIsNull then ...
But please tell me what blows up? How?
