Lazarus.exe compiled from latest revision reported as malware
« on: December 21, 2011, 12:02:18 am »
Hello,
as in title, I downloaded last svn revision and started compiling process. Everything went ok, but while linking of lazarus.exe, Avira reported malware alert with TR/Crypt.XPACK.Gen3 trojan found and suggested to remove this executable. System scan started after that reported nothing. I know that lazarus.exe has nothing to do with trojans and I suppose it's only a bad recognition, but it still happen, which never happen before (in last Sunday, for example, everything was ok), so is here anybody with similar experiences? Any hints how to solve this situation?

Best regards!

I've seen this many times specially with Norton, false alarms are mostly triggered by the Application Icon, where the scanner gets confused by the binary representation of the icon, and because it is the first data-section in most cases.

Change the icon or delete and re-add the application icon/MAINICON resource and 99.9% the false positive goes away.

This has worked for me many times. Virus scanners are getting more paranoid :P

You should report this as a bug to Avira, so that they can fix this.

Thanks for your answers :) I will consider reporting this fact to Avira, but now I added lazarus.exe into white list (deleting the mainicon resource didn't work for me, so I will search another solution for future) and it will work for a while.

Best!

These types of problems are very endemic to Windows. You should seriously consider switching to Linux for development at least.

It's not a solution, but I had the same problem with Delphi XE.  Everyone assured me that it was a false identification by Arira, and I'm sure it was -- but I ultimately resolved the issue by switching to AVG.
