Strange popup hint effect

A user has reported an odd effect with popup hints, as shown in the snapshot below. He says that the effect is repeatable, but no-one else has reported it and I can't reproduce it myself. He says that it happens with the Linux version of the program but not the (identical) Windows version.

I think this is a window redraw issue on the user's system, but I'd be interested to know if anyone else has seen this.

I remember such redraw problems with earlier versions of KDE4 (KDE4.2 ~three years ago). But it was general problem, not only with Lazarus. What distro it is (what window manager) ?

He's using Fedora 17 with KDE 4.9.2.
