Problems changing lazarus versions in Ubuntu
« on: February 17, 2011, 02:39:37 pm »
I installed the 'Last Chance' testing snapshot for 0.9.29 under Ubuntu 10.04. The standard 0.9.28.2 was installed previously and I had existing projects that worked with that install.
I ran into the usual problems I always forget about, having to get rid of all references to 0.9.28.2 in existing configuration files to avoid all the error messages about missing packages etc. That should either be handled in the install or at least documented in the FAQ. I'm sure I did it better last time I upgraded but this time I deleted .lazarus in my home directory and deleted /etc/lazarus (leaving /etc/lazarus-0.9.29), trying to get sensible defaults for paths. Also had to rebuild lazarus with "Cleanup + Build All" before I could get package installation working and be able to compile one of my projects.

Does anyone know what configuration files need to be edited or purged when changing to a different version of Lazarus (and fpc too I guess). It would be nice to get the 'proper' procedure for changing lazarus versions  documented somewhere thats easy to find. If its there somewhere I didn't have much luck finding it.

delete :

$HOME/.lazarus

don't forget to purge (with apt-get) all lazarus 0.9.28
