I am always happy when I see someone use Delphi or fpc/Lazarus - Pascal lives! For me, curly bracket languages are ugly and Java applications need runtime environment and their startup is slow (like OpenOffice).
Lazarus 2.3.0 (rev main-2_3-2863...) FPC 3.3.1 x86_64-linux-qt Chakra, Qt 4.8.7/5.13.2, Plasma 5.17.3
Lazarus 1.8.2 r57369 FPC 3.0.4 i386-win32-win32/win64 Wine 3.21

Try Eye-Candy Controls: https://sourceforge.net/projects/eccontrols/files/

OpenOffice written in C++. Java needed only for some parts of it. Anyway, I use OpenOffice on my ArchLinux without installed java/openjdk/etc. :)

About the topic. I'm hoping that 2011 will be interesting with a lot of new projects and improving to old projects. Also I hope that Lazarus and FreePascal(I'm still waiting for release with some bugfixes from 2.5.1 for 64-bit compiler) will be more useful and faster :)

Java needed only for some parts of it.
Part of Sun's marketing strategy: there has to be Java though just a bit in every supported product, even in open source ones.

Of course you can, but those parts you mentioned won't work.

This article should be posted in a larger community rather than just a blog. That way, people would know us more.

Yes, men, now I see you are true with OpenOffice.  But I read some articles about LibreOffice and developers are talking about lower Java dependency. So maybe in future it will be clean C++.
