Let people say what they want about programming languages they like or not, I prefer letting the code speaks. My programs show my language's power.

hi Leledumbo?

Just want to ask you about Lazarus?
Is it really faster than JAVA? as we know JAVA is very slow.
About language power? Do you think LAZARUS is powerfull than JAVA?

Yes (when you talk about execution time of comparable statements).

Let's not exaggerate. It depends on what you want to do with the language.

Each has it's own strengths and weaknesses. Choose the right tool for the job.

Delphi is not deat but borland has very mistake strategy. Delphi lose more than 5 year.
now embarcadero starting correctcorrect. but 5 year is very big time for programing language. may be 5 years later Delphi fine days.

Definitely, my university uses Java in most of its programming courses, so I know it very well. I can guarantee Free Pascal / Lazarus programs run at least 3 times faster than Java and consume almost 10 times less memory.

Yes, certainly. There are things you can do in Pascal that you can't in Java (at least not without dirty tricks or can't be done easily), but the opposite is not. Everything you can do in Java can be done in Pascal (in a more elegant way).

BTW does anybody know how to execute a clear screen in a cross compatible way in Java?
Cause I know in Lazarus, but not in Java ;-)

AFAIR Java has no notion about "console", it only has notions about standard streams (input, output and error).

Programming is hard.  If I know that earlier I could have been a doctor.
A doctor only specialized 1 or 2.
Technology.

xenablaise you are right, programming is hard, and most of the people do not know how much knowledge a programmer has.

Delphi is not dead. It just does not have the same traction & mindshare as Java & .NET in the corporate world & in universities. However, clients don't care what language an application is built with as long as it works!

I use Delphi, Lazarus & Java and I ALWAYS return to Delphi or Lazarus because of the speed & the ease of creating GUI demos and mockups. I can copy my entire Delphi/Lazarus installation and the demo application onto a USB key & run it on a client's computer without installing anything!

That flexibility is priceless for me.  :D

I find programming very tasking because there's always something new to learn. Some new technology is always coming out. That's why I chose to remain a hobbyist programmer. I program for fun but I still find it useful in my financial consulting work.

Programming is good for the brain cells though. Keeps one's logical thinking and imagination sharp!

Yeah, programming is not just for programmers. My friend, an accounting staff, finishes his report in 3 hours while other staffs do it in 1 week. And he got more than 50% salary increase.
