Title: Purchasing Lazarus
Post by: Jungle on March 04, 2021, 03:21:15 pm
Company I work in uses only commercial software, so is there a legal way to purchase Lazarus? Maybe in a form of paid support?

Probably several FPC and Lazarus developers would offer consulting services on a commercial basis.
One who did (and AFAIK still does) is Joost at https://www.cnoc.nl/ (https://www.cnoc.nl/)

Lazarus is open source, you're free to use it in any project you like including commercial projects.

But if want to support Lazarus/FPC, there are many things you can do:

- Donate to Lazarus
https://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/How_to_donate_to_Lazarus (https://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/How_to_donate_to_Lazarus)

- If you have project but limited time or manpower for it, you can consider to create bounties
https://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/Bounties (https://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/Bounties)

- If you have time and have decent skill in programming, you can join in the development team, fixing bugs and make Lazarus and FPC better.

- If you good in writing, please help us improve the wiki and documentation.

- If you found something not working as what it should be in Lazarus or FPC software, please report it to the bugtracker
https://bugs.freepascal.org/view_all_bug_page.php?project_id=1 (https://bugs.freepascal.org/view_all_bug_page.php?project_id=1)

- If you can spare some time, please consider to visit the forum and help others.

Although Lazarus and FPC are free, if you want develop and distribute commercial software using Lazarus/FPC, you should make sure you comply to the licenses' terms of components you used especially if you use any third party components.

You should already read this:

I can image that for Jungle it is not a matter of cost. Many companies, for sure big company, do not allow to install free software for several reasons, unless they are bought from specific and qualified sellers, this is usually a matter of legal and security aspects. Am I right Jungle ?

I do not thinl FPC and Lazarus teams shall have a commercial version. You can try two things:
1) an excetion in your conpany  :)
2) one of your official sellers do the job for you (resell to you with the due certificates, etc..).

It is a pity that there is not a commercial version.

Maybe not a commercial version, but a way of distribution (usb-flash, dvd-rom with Lazarus itself and books/docs/presentation/etc).
