Title: Where is it?
Post by: Cubud on May 24, 2007, 04:54:00 pm
I downloaded the file

lazarus-0.9.22-20070327-powerpc-macosx.dmg

I mounted it and ran the installer inside.  Now what?  I can't see anything new in my applications list.  Where do I find the IDE?

PS, my Mac is an Intel Core Duo, is that the problem?

Thanks

Pete

An Intel Core Duo isn't a PowerPC!

Download the 'i386' releases!

Well :-)

Earlier I downloaded something else marked PowerPC and it worked, so when I could only see PowerPC editions for Mac I thought it was worth trying.

Anyway, my problems now are

01: I don't know the filename of the file I need, would you mind telling me?
02: How do I uninstall the current version?  I have no idea where the files are!

Thanks

Pete

Start X11 ( /Applications/Utilities/X11) Then launch a X11 terminal and run these commands:
 cd /usr/local/share/lazarus
 ./lazarus

I think it' s on /usr/local/share/lazarus

Just delete this folder. It should be enougth to uninstall. You will want to uninstall before installing a new one.

The SUDO command doesn't work for me.  I have MacPorts installed so I don't want to install flink, could you tell me the correct parameters for macports instead please?

I'm not familiar with MacPorts. Install fink and use it:

fink and the files it downloads is a clean install: everything is placed in the /sw folder.

Thanks.

I think I'll just play with RealBasic instead, it has a simple installer.  There aren't enough free hours in the day to spend time working out just how to install an app.

Are you sure you want to give up so easily? I know it may seem overwhelming -- new tools, new IDE, new platform (it sounds like you haven't programmed on the Mac before) -- and certainly the installation needs to become easier someday, but Lazarus on OS X is really starting to move, what with Tom G's push on creating a native Carbon widgetset. This means that the programs you develop will have no dependencies other than Carbon, which is installed on every Mac.

I think so, yes.  I have such little spare time that I cannot possibly waste it just trying to get something to install.  If it installed easily then I'd take another look, but at the moment I don't feel it is worth it.  I'm not bothered about fixing bugs etc, that is productive, manual and labourious installation doesn't feel that way though.

As for Carbon, I really want to write multi-platform apps.  I presume that library (name escapes me at the moment) is multi-platform but does it require installed DLLs on the target machine?

If someone comes up with a good installer for the Mac then please let me know :-)
