Using the "secondary installation" feature it is possible to have links to a variety of Lazarus versions on the desktop. The problem is: how to distinguish these versions?
Roland Hahn, the designer of a large number of the new Lazarus toolbar and menu icons, sent me a bunch of icons (ico files) in various colors and with various overlays. This way it is possible to assign an individual icon to each installation - see screenshot. Each ico file contains images at various sizes up to 256x256 so that the icons look nice also on high-dpi screens. In order not to blow up the size of the Lazarus distribution I stored them on Lazarus Code and Components Repository, folder "applications/laz_icons" (https://sourceforge.net/p/lazarus-ccr/svn/HEAD/tree/applications/laz_icons/). Either download the images separately from this link, or use svn.
Make them available by using the standard procedures of you operating system. On Windows, for example, right-click on the desktop link and select "Properties" and "Other Symbol...", navigate to the icon folder and select the icon that you want.

It's amazing how little thing like just a color change/coding can make life easier and simpler. Well done!.
