By some reason my IDE is messed up.
How to reset?

What mean messed up ? Unuseable or only the windows lost ? Is clean recompile not working ?

Hardcore:
Move and Backup the config directory to another place. And then start Lazarus und recompile clean.

Whatever "messed up" means...

Depending on OS.

1) If you did rebuild (to add packages), then there is
- On Windows) a lazarus.old.exe in the install dir. (back it up now, or next time it may be bad too)
- On Linux) start lazarus as "lazarus" and not "startlazarus"

2) Config
- Win) C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\lazarus
- Linux) ~/.lazarus

Backup, then remove individual XML files, until you found the guilty one

Thanks,
New project and recompile clean did the trick.

for next time, you may do this:
Click the icon "desktop" and "save as...".
Keeps a working desktop.

My windows tend to wander while working. The IDE shifts them.

To say under Tools->Desktop not "to autosave" can be a gamechanger (but remind, if you change anything you must manual save the desktop - the other side of the medal)

Had something similar happen to me.

Initially installed the Lazarus 64Bit and 32 bit addon and got weird corrupted loading of project files. Got some error message about the config file not being correct.

Ended up deleting that and installing the 32 bit version of Lazarus. Now every so often the form does not load after clicking a project file to open. Need to go to file and open file with pas extension. I have BGRABmp installed and thought maybe the cause might be that, due to float point code having an error in one of the builds. I installed using the Open Packet Manager (OPM).

After some time  I did a complete new install.
