What a sad day. My condolence to his family and friends.

I do not know why I felt like I lost a friend, and not any friend, but someone I know for a long time, like a very close friend.
What to say about this loss. No words can describe the moment when my eyes read: "BigChimp passed away", what a shock, although I haven't got any direct contact with Reinier, except the few times that he helped me out here.
BigChip was one of the few people that you admire without spending too much time to know him.
Amazing personality and good person he was. Very decent and supportive, whenever you need help he is always there to assist. Whenever you come to this forum you can't miss but to notice his presence helping here and there.
You will always be remembered BigChimp.
Rest in peace Reinier Olislagers.
My condolences to his family, friends and Lazarus community.

It is very chocking, he worked with my on TurboBird this year, and he told me that he has a cancer, I talked to him many times in skype, and I emailed him from time to time asking about his health
I wanted to ask about him today in Lazarus forum.
It is really sad news for Lazarus community.
This is his last email reply to me on October 13
Hi Motaz,
Just hanging on and coding sometimes. Treatment keeps me off the
forum/mailing lists sometimes. Was busy with import module for lazsqlx
(and turbobird)...
How are you?
Regards,
Reinier

This also came as a shock to me, as I wasn't aware of his illness. :(
I only know him through this forum, but he helped me many times and when the question wasn't his area of speciallity, he always tried to point me and many others in the right direction. He gave a great contribution to this forum and Lazarus project through his work.
Rest in peace BigChimp,

Good way to die, making what you like in an open source community. I want to die this way too.

I found that BigChimp was active in TurboBird repository until 26-October, and this is one of his last commits/additions there:

Sorry to hear this sad news on the Lazarus mailing list.
Big Chimp helped me a lot and could always be relied upon to offer helpful advice.

I came to the forum after some time and I couldn't believe my eyes... :(
A great loss for this community... he helped many people on the forum and made quite an effort to improve the wiki, IMHO a great contribution in itself. And what's more to say about fpcup... I fortunately got to know him a little while briefly collaborating with him on the project...
In any case it's a great loss of a person too young to die, and so full of creative energy and willing to share it with others...
You will be missed, Reiner... Rest in peace...
-
i feel upset about this. i remember him being very helpful regardless the mood i was in. a big thanks to him

Siento enterarme de estas malas noticias :(
Estuvo por aquí incluso en su estado compartiendo con tod@s nosotr@s, no sabía que estaba tan enfermo:

LazReport translation!
Ola Jma sp, (Sorry, my Spanish is about non-existent). Noticed your work on translating the LazReprot docs into Spanish - just wanted to say thanks. I'm glad that my own work in updating the docs pays off and helps others ;)

Wow.
My condolences to his family.
I have read numerous posts/comments by BigChimp; not only in response to my own posts. His contributions will stand the test of time; but we're all going to have a void due to no new posts...
May he rest in peace. God bless.
-
So sad :(
RIP BigChimp.
Condolences to his family
-
he was a great guy
Please transmit my condoleances to his family and friends
-
Can't believe he was gone. I learned it just today when I am trying to use fpcup and notice the "late" word before the name and then BigChimp. RIP BigChimp, God bless you.
-
I regret to say I had missed this thread.
How very sad so my belated condolences to his family and friends.
BigChimp has replied many times to my noobish threads and anyone who spares time for beginners gets a big thumbs up in my book.
Maybe he'll be his own Lazarus and is now up there watching over all us mere mortals plugging away a the next project source.
Thanks for your help BigChimp, you're gone but not forgotten !
-
I too am shocked and deeply saddened.
I visit these forums on and off (more off than on). BigChimp has helped me a number of times, always found time to reply to my messages.
Maybe we could name a release after him as a sign of respect for all the work he's done for the community.
Thank you Reiner for your help in the past both to me and the community, may you rest in peace.
Regards,
Stephen...
