Title: better installation process

Can we have a better installation process? It is for people do not know anything about Lazarus and know nothing about Linux.

Linux is probably not the right platform for people that know nothing about Linux.

Ask the Linux people to make it easier for the application developers. Starting with the fact that you have to make a package for every distribution (and version) separately.

   Regarding FPC based IDEs, Lazarus has the most advanced available installation process:
- has official downloads from the interned web site;
- has 3rd party installation processes based on package managers(linux);
- has 3rd party installation processes(getlazarus and fpcup come into my mind).

   Is your problem related to the fact that the installation processes depend on too many 3rd party items(programs, libraries and so on)?

People will yell at me for this, but CodeTyphons installation/maintenance/update system is 1000 times better than that of Lazarus (Which has no official, universal multi-platform maintenance/update system at all, only installers and the third-party options you mentioned). Their "CodeTyphon Center" is just an excellent, well executed piece of software that makes so many things significantly more convenient. Lazarus would benefit quite a bit from a similar standalone installation/update manager application.

First of all, define "better". What's missing from current approach? What do you suggest to add? Be precise.

I'm not complaining about the current installation process on Linux but should we not just focus on DEB (Debian derivatives) & RPM (Red Hat derivatives). These two cover a huge part of the Linux landscape.
