Title: I know this is a bit OT, but...
Post by: victor on September 08, 2003, 10:54:12 pm
I can't seem to find the answer anywhere.  Anyway, it is not  that OT...

:o I downloaded Lazarus some time ago from a mirror (one week before the site went back online).  I decompressed, compiled, itnstalled, and run it.  When I decided to actually try it, I got the surprise that, at lest with the installed components, it wouldn't do data base apps.  The TDatasource component was installed though, but that was it.  No dataset control. nor any data access controls, no...nothing.

:? I have found that one of the major complaints about Kylix Open Edition is the lack of database access, and I heard Lazarus touted as an alternative.  Where are is is the database access? What is it that I am missing?

:(  I have tried downloading it again.  I tried CVS.  I looked for around the net many times for an answer in different web sites, archives of newsgroups and mailling lists (some of them I actually posted to).  I repeated my installations just in case, nothing.

:D Thank you for all your help,

There are no datrabase components yet. AFAIK has the FCL some database access.
We still need volunteers to implement the Database controls.

For those who haven't been keeping up with the mailing list or CVS, Mattias and myself have gotten most basic TDBxxx controls in place, not all work, some are pretty untested, but they are there now by default.  :D

Right now we need to get them more stable, and the FCL backend support for generic Dataset implementation more complete(and a bit more Delphi compatible in places for those wonderfull 3rd party Datsets out there), as well as making sure the existing FCL Datasets (MySql, Interbase etc) are complete enough for use with the LCL.

I also started for the purpose of testing these components a wrapper around the MyLittleBase component, if anyone wishes to help bring this up to real usability or help with any of these things, they are of course welcome.

And of course, I will be trying to get to do more work on all these areas myself soon, and Mattias will likely be as well, so hopefull whenever the next beta is released(and probably a new FPC 1.0.10 rpm with any db updates needed at that point) we will have a full suite of semi-stable db controls, perhaps a flat csv text table Dataset, along with the ability to compile in the MySql or Interbase FCL db support as extra packages.  8)
