Hi I have Lazarus 1.0.14 on a 64bit windows 10 laptop. I am wondering whether to upgrade to the current version and in particular looking for a step by step guide to upgrading as opposed to a new install. Also the question of 3rd party packages - I cant find where to see a list of any I may have installed. Thanks for any help.

Yes, upgrade.
Just download and install 1.6.2 version.
It will detect the old version adn ask if you want to keep it (IIRC).

Version 1.6.0 and 1.6.2 keep the settings in <AppData>\Local\lazarus
For updating from 1.6.0 to 1.6.2 , I just ran the setup, let it uninstall the previous version, tell it to KEEP your settings and install in the same place.

I don't know about an old version like yours though.
[EDIT] As the others said, you need to rebuild the IDE after installing it and runnning the first time!

In addition to the post above, after installing Lazarus I needed to rebuild the IDE to get my installed packages in the component toolbar. If you install from download you get the 'naked' Lazarus install with the default components.

Girlbrush, he updates from Lazarus 1.0.14, not 1.6.0. It means the old version must be uninstalled but the installer indeed offers to do that.

Yes but rebuilding Lazarus is easy. No problem.
Your earlier installed packages are remembered in configuration.

Thank you for all the help - upgraded now - very straightforward. I am retired and have'nt done any programming for quite a while so will be diving in again.

At least you (are supposed to) have plenty of time now O:-)
