Thanks Phil and LuizAmérico  :)

I'm relatively new to the svn thing, is there an easy way to download what you suggested?
This link shows me the individual files, which is rather cumbersome to download from.

I ran all the demo's and all seems to work fine.
With one demo (vtbasic), the first option (Basic VT as a Listbox (no node data used) only shows a dialog window saying "This is it...!", I'm assuming it refers to the main form showing the 5 options :)

It looks like an excellent component! :)

Now I'm off to read: VirtualTreeview Example for Lazarus

Thanks again for the help and the great component!

Another reference is the below "support" web site for VTV.  I used quotes because it appears the VTV community is not very active.  However, the forum does contain some useful information if you do a lot of searching.
http://support.soft-gems.net/forums/

v4.8.6 is what is available for our (Lazarus) use.

There are newer versions of VTV available.
v4.8.7, last changed in April 2010; appears to be mostly bug fixes
http://code.google.com/p/virtual-treeview/source/browse/branches/4.8/Source/VirtualTrees.pas

v5.0.0, last changed Jan 13, 2011.  Looks like the VTV team is putting out an update every month or so, although it is not clear if they are bumping the program version when they do so.
I have not been able to determine when the fork occurred and what prompted the version bump.

The Lazarus version is synchronized with this branch up to rev 249. I will sync the two remaining revisions in the next release

This is an branch with api breaking changes. It is not stabilized yet.

Great job!

I use VirtualTreeView in my Delphi projects for more than 9 years, and I agree with another one in this topic, that said that this is one of the best VCL components ever. Thanks to Mike Lischke and thanks to Luiz too.

Best regards.

It failed in intalling this in neither 'Open package file (.lpk) ...' nor 'Package->Install/Uninstall packages ...'.
What should be needed more before installing?

Looking at the screenshot you also need to install the lclextensions package (http://code.google.com/p/luipack/downloads/list).

The same problem is reported a bit higher in this topic: http://www.lazarus.freepascal.org/index.php/topic,8601.msg46483.html#msg46483.
You can see a fix for it a few posts further down.

I compiled it and decided to install it instead of only adding into project.
There was a warning message that it might made the IDE to be very fat.

Will it be seriously fat and how ?
