Error after installing new package & recompiling / MacOS
« on: March 14, 2025, 11:57:26 pm »
Hi there!
First i want to thank all members of this Forum, it's just great how well you work together and help each other!

I use Lazarus 3.8 on a Mac (Sequoia 15.3.1).
OK, here's my problem: i want to install a new package (no matter if it is an online or an offline/local package). I compile it and i'm asked if i want to recompile Lazarus (yes, of course i will).
Everything seems to be OK, but when Lazarus should be restarted, i get an error message ("Can't find Lazarus executable ...") with a very long path (see screenshot).

I have no clue, where this path comes from, nor what i can do to install any package without that error ...

Can someone help me, please?

Thanks in advance
Sascha

Have you removed the quarantine attribute from startlazarus.app ?

OK, i tried that, same result. He shows the same error message with the same path. I removed the attribute from the file itself, as from the whole directory. :-(

Yes, I was worried that would be the case. You should see my last post here -
https://forum.lazarus.freepascal.org/index.php/topic,70445.msg549857.html#msg549857

In summary, I can see that same problem. I am now traveling and don't have my Mac with me so its up to the Mac users to track this down.

If I could, I would go back to, eg, 3.8 and re-build it on my Monterey system. It has built here recently and runs without problems. But I have to wonder if it will build now ?  The reason I ask is we definitely need to isolate the problem, is it a change to Lazarus or is it a change in the OS ?   If the later, seems its a change also pushed out to systems as old as my Monteray ? Surly not ?

If its a change to Lazarus, that change will not exist in 3.8.

But only people, such as you and Jon can track this down, people sitting behind a Mac.

OK, thanks a lot! It's so sad, i'm working with three different systems (Linux, Win & Mac), but only on the Mac i have a lot of problems. :-( I tried 3.6 and 3.8, no chance, i got always the same error.

I already moved to my Windows-PC - no problems at all, i achieved more in two hours with that PC than i achieved in two days(!) on the Mac. I will try again later, but now i focus on my Program.

Again, thanks a lot!  :)
