Lazarus Portable image finally working !
« on: February 13, 2025, 07:23:53 pm »
Hey everyone,

I’m thrilled to share some great news—Portable Lazarus is now available! This is a runimage version, similar to an AppImage, which means it’s a single, self-contained file that includes all its dependencies. The best part? It works seamlessly on any Linux distribution, including atomic ones like SteamOS.

How to Get Started:
Direct Download:
Simply download the binary and run it directly. No complicated setup required!
Download link:

Using Soar (Portable App Manager):
For an even smoother experience, you can use Soar, a package manager designed specifically for portable apps.

Install Lazarus with this command:

bash

soar install lazarus

Launch it by simply typing:

lazarus

This is a game-changer for developers who need a flexible, distribution-agnostic way to run Lazarus. Give it a try and let me know what you think!

Any chance someone can package this as a flatpak or snap, and publish that?

It would be great to have a flatpak on KDE Discover Store for Lazarus IDE.

I use portable applications very extensively.

But I see no reason to make Lazarus available as a ‘portable application’, because firstly we are talking about 1.5 GB and secondly the secondary installation method of Lazarus is already a kind of portable.
Lazarus stays in its directory and leaves the operating system untouched

Is it possible in this package to recompile lazarus with new packages ?
