(SOLVED)Arrow keys in FV
« on: December 04, 2024, 10:04:56 pm »
Howdy guys,

First, thanks for getting the file loading fixed in FV. I really like the look and feel. Ok, I am running on an HP laptop with a Ryzen 7 processor, 32g memory, a 1 tb SSD and a 1tb HD. I am running on KDE Neon Linux (ubuntu based).

The only arrow key that is working in either the FP IDE or my bright shiny new version of ALE is the left arrow. All other cursor controls seem to work as expected including PgUp, PgDn, Home, End, Ctrl+Home & End, Ctrl+Pgdn & Pgup, and Ctr;+right & left arrow. Is there a way to teach an FV editor about my up, down, and right arrows?

Thanks,
--- Jem

In what terminal do you run FV? Because the only thin I can think of is that the terminal has the arrow keys ialready hooked. If I test on a plain gnome based ubuntu machine everything works.
I didn't use kde konsole for a very long time, but it may be that is the cause.
There is nothing wrong with being blunt. At a minimum it is also honest.

That makes sense. I'll do some more experimentation and see what is going on here.

Thanks,

There's also the issue of what key combinations KDE claims for itself: there's a setting somewhere that allows those to be inspected, but it always takes me half an hour to find it :-)

Since FV is, ultimately, CUA, I'd be cautious about arrow keys except within the context of something like a text editor.

You were both right. I'm not sure where the problem was, but after playing with the terminfo stuff and not finding anything unusual, I decided to delete my custom profile in Konsole and build a new one. That fixed the issue, although I still don't know what the heck was wrong in the old profile.

Thanks again,
--- Jem
