Please, simplify Lazarus installation
« on: June 07, 2009, 10:48:28 pm »
I am a newbie in Linux.

I am very frustrated triying to compile Lazarus in Puppy Linux 4.2.1

Why Lazarus do not have a REAL INSTALLER, with ALL STUFF INCLUDED?????

Is so simple to install it in Windows!!

use a distro which support packages. There are at least .deb and .rpm, where you can install lazarus on debian or fedora

Because usually everything you need is in your distro's repository. So it's a waste of space if the installer also includes them.

Windows have all libraries used by Lazarus preinstalled, because they're native (otherwise, you'll be back to old DOS). Linux don't have native GUI libraries, and you're free to choose which one to use since Lazarus not only supports one or two.
