Thanks for the answers, this reminds me of how some languages were before the ide were created, everything gui had to be created  at runtime

But you can also develop GUI apps from scratch. Just make direct calls to the WIN-API, Gtk-API, X-Server/Wayland or whatever your System has.

I remember doing that with the WIN-API.  It took mindless drudgery to Olympian levels.  And Delphi was "free at last, free at last, than God Almighty I am free at last..."

I am using the standard Free Pascal text-mode IDE. As was originally hinted at – it gets me by. However, I have never (lifetime) used the debugger. Maybe I should. I suspect/recall in my early going, it was unproductive, so I veered.

Your collective recommend for the Lazarus immersion has not gone unnoticed (as in, learning my way around the Lazarus IDE would be a terrific investment). Agreed. I will find the time; maybe in September. It is my future.....

Please know – your commentary helps. Largely with the scope of other people’s experiences. I’ve been away from it so long that peeking out from under my rock is a very-definite positive thing.
Thank you,
MrPink

Thanks for sharing how you find hiding under a rock preferable to programming in pascal.  :D

I'm surprised to read that from you.  There is nothing in what he said that means he prefers to hide under a rock than program in Pascal.    I'm guessing your understanding of your native language needs a little debugging (I don't think FpDebug, as good as it is, can help you with that one.)
(FPC v3.0.4 and Lazarus 1.8.2) or (FPC v3.2.2 and Lazarus v3.2) on Windows 7 SP1 64bit.

Joanna, sober or not: for $DEITY's sake SHUT UP.

How on Earth was that supposed to be helpful to anybody, particularly if directed at somebody who admits to having limited experience of the programming tools discussed in this forum?
