progress bar when dumping disk

Hello.
How can I realize progress bar that shows how goes shell command
Shell ('dd if=/dev/cdrom of=/tmp/cd.iso');

And how can I show with progress bar mencoder video conversion status (i. e. which part of video already converted  mencoder) ?
