Broken link ?
« on: July 01, 2024, 02:22:39 am »
https://forum.lazarus.freepascal.org/index.php/page,9.html

This link for chat on left side of forum seems to be having technical issues when attempting to connect

“We couldn't connect to that server :(
Unknown error”

Does anyone else have difficulty connecting?

This might work better if the other one can’t be fixed

Works as of 08:12 GMT.

Following through, it's a whole lot of Javeascript crap which invokes a frame containing a link to

https://kiwiirc.com/nextclient/?settings=61e6f320d88021a430eebdb736f1b360

which is a whole lot of Javascript crap implementing an IRC reader.

Joanna's suggested https://web.libera.chat/ is a bit more straightforward, but in neither case is anything presented to the user indicating who is responsible for the service being provided... I suggest that that be fixed.

@markml I still can’t get past the part where you click to connect. Are you on a desktop computer? I’m curious what os and browser still works.

I don’t usually use the forum link but it was brought to my attention by someone from the forum trying to connect and telling me it’s broken.

For those who want to use the Libera webchat link , I want to say that you can do something like this to search for channels

/msg alis List pascal

It's currently broken. Have to see if it is temporary.

Unfortunately, we were not able to find a reasonable fix.
Given the low usage of that particular page, we regrettably had to decide it is no longer warranted to maintain it in any form.

Anyone still wishing to use IRC is advised to use their favourite search engine to find a channel that suits them. Various channels are maintained by third parties and have different objectives. Users need to inform themselves about these before using the channels.

Since these are third-party channels and there is known controversy, they will neither be linked here nor discussed on the forum.

Many thanks for understanding the situation.

P.S. I am aware the wiki needs to be updated. I am currently waiting for the wiki to be fixed so this will be possible. (Sorry, no update on when this will happen).
