To me it looks like he is trying to lure people off to another platform that is unrelated to fpc  :o

I said nothing bad, but you accused me of not knowing Pascal and evil motives. I thought the pascal community was more open and friendly.

Joanna is not the community, just one person within.
Meet community by creating threads that are about pascal and not suggesting as first post to open an external website, that made her very very doubtful about you.
From my side, welcome to community, have a nice stay and good talks!

Do you know pascal? If so please do use the forums for the purpose for which they were intended instead of trying to lure people off on a wild goose chase on another platform.  ::)

As I stated before: He is using the forum for the purpose for which they are indented: To communicate about Pascal.

Also, I can not see him luring people away. Just extending the reach of the Pascal community. Wich will increase the spread of word about Pascal and therefore is a good thing, and is (again) exactly one of the purposes of this forum.

@codeninja: You and your post here are welcome.

Martin I appreciate your work on Lazarus and  applaud your efforts to welcome new people. And of course you want your work to be enjoyed by many people. Who wouldn’t?

Unfortunately, I’m a native English speaker and I notice when we are being mocked. Sorry about that..

There is nothing unfortunate about being a native English speaker. SCNR.

That line above can be deemed "mocking", as for the rest of the conversation here, I would not classify any of it as  mocking. (except for the sample line in this post, and that for demonstration purposes only).

EDIT:
And before this gets misunderstood: I am aware that the above example is not the only way "to mock" can be defined. My statement - not seeing any mocking - holds for any definition.

Martin you are correct, I was being sarcastic.

Quote
If we managed to persuade l33t to add Pascal support, it would increase Pascal's popularity. Do you need some frash blood in the community?

This statement right here....
He is promising us that if we mobilize and participate in his crusade at leet code , pascal will become more popular.
He is making a promise that he is completely incapable of keeping in order to emotionally manipulate us.
His use of the word “we” is an attempt to make us feel like he has the same interests as us.
His asking if we need “frash blood” is once again trying to play on people’s fears of community being small and inadequate.{IT IS NOT!!} The misspelled word looks pretty bad I don’t know if it’s deliberate or not. Either way, the term fresh blood is disrespectful. Is joining this community akin to being a human sacrifice or something gruesome?

@Joanna,

Odds are that there is probably some truth in what you're saying.

With that said, just about everyone has an "agenda" or simply an interest in something.  Promoting that something, whatever it may be, is acceptable as long as it is done within reason.  My guess/impression is that he is probably more interested in promoting leetcode than Pascal (I could be wrong about that) but, so far, IMO, he hasn't crossed any lines.

I'll remind you that, when you first appeared in this forum, you were "promoting" IRC and, to the opinion of some, mine included, a bit too "vigorously".

The point, give people a chance to make their case.  If they become too "enthusiastic", it's quite likely the moderator will rein them in.  IOW, to an extent that is reasonable, give the benefit of the doubt.
(FPC v3.0.4 and Lazarus 1.8.2) or (FPC v3.2.2 and Lazarus v3.2) on Windows 7 SP1 64bit.

@440bx
I would love to chat with you in real time I think it would be fun  ;)

My agenda is to get people to chat about fpc and hopefully improve their code. I was {and still am} promoting a place to help and support the users of Lazarus and fpc. Not only that, it it was created by this community before I got there. Leetcode is in no way created by this community that I’m aware of. This is a big difference I think.

Promises like that have been made plenty. Here on the forum, and else where.

What he does is classic lobbying. That differs from mocking. Even though for anyone not believing in a cause, lobbying for that cause may always appear like mockery. ("to appear <> to be")

Mockery would imply some sort of insincerity on his site.  https://www.dictionary.com/browse/mock
For this case here, it would either have to be 1 "ridicule" or 5 "deceive".

Mind that "tease" is listed in the definition, but in the sense of ridicule (making fun). Part of his statement is teasing, but in the sense of creating excitement (lobbying). That is therefore different.

It seems to me, that his statement is meant to be sincere.
And, its technically not wrong => "if we persuade... ", and if really many us go there (which is the condition to his advertised benefit) then Pascal would be quite visible there. And then it is likely that some people learn about it, and join the community of Pascal users. The critical point, is to get enough people to go there.

It has worked in the past for Sourceforge project of the month. So its not impossible. It may not work out, but if his lobbying fails to motivate enough people to join the cause, then that doesn't make his effort any less sincere. So I fail to see, why I should regard it as mockery.

@J
Isn't it enough to write once an opinion and period.
There is no need to put more "anti" posts up.
We heard you first time already pretty good and clear.
If you having doubts that some post got wrong content, report it to mods, for that purpose this forum got a button ready to be used.

Let mods do their job and you do yours.

If mods don't remove something just because you told or reported, than live with the decision that the mods made but not start-over by putting more "anti" posts up, that help nobody and in worst case it damage community reputation.
To analyze some phrase and picking out words is no strategy at all, just quote it and ask to clarify how something is meant but not put in first place your assumption about that and endless debate about from all point of views.

Since a mod already told that his post is legal why can't you accept it?

Time will show if codeninja is actually having interest to talk about pascal and a problem he got with it or he reply to other threads or none of it :D
