@TRon I was expecting a rickroll. Disappointed  ;D

@lemodizon Check out some tutorials on Lazarus, e.g. I guess this one would be a good start https://wiki.freepascal.org/Lazarus_Tutorial.

You will also need to learn Pascal programming language rather sooner than later, so some materials would also be very beneficial, e.g. https://wiki.freepascal.org/Basic_Pascal_Tutorial

Also look at the links under those articles.

Short disclaimer: I didn't read those articles I've linked, only looked through them diagonally and they seem to address your issue. I myself came to Lazarus from Turbo Pascal and required a different kind of learning materials :D So if you have a programming background - some other articles might be more effective to start with.

a rickroll... what is that ?  O:-)

(but in all seriousness I did not wanted to be that harsh, just an informative video on how we can help each other and that tells to look at your left and right..which surprisingly shows some links to the wiki (left) and to topics (right) ).

To err is human, but to really mess things up, you need a computer.

I should not be doing this to someone with his first post but...

So then why...

The occasional joke here in the forum is usually well received, but as a piece of welcome culture. Not making much sense.

@lemodizon

Because once in a while I get fed up with those who refuse to (actually) read. And yes, in such case I should refrain from posting a response (which I usually do)

And be assured, there are plenty of people who will actually help.
Which perhaps unintentionally but indirectly and without actually saying it implies that I do not actually help. Dearly noted but do realize that the lyrics of that song actually and literally tell what to do and besides that has an (very gentle) underlying message.

Retracting myself from this thread to not further pollute (as some people seem to prefer (see how annoying that is ? )).

To end this with a more positive note to TS: there is a wiki available that is able to answer most of the questions that beginners haves. If that raises questions then feel free to ask.

I also find it very strange that new accounts keep starting these survey of what books they should read posts and then disappearing.

To be more precise, an initial answer of "Search our wiki" would have had no issues. That link however, well I didn't get it was supposed to mean that. Maybe some people got it. Based on the kind of thread, I wouldn't bet on the OP having done.

Yes of course it would. But perhaps I was overthinking this ...

.. because my line of thinking when I wrote my reply:
- poster is posting first post, so must be new
- poster seem not capable of reading all the links that are present at the forum-page, and unable to find the wiki on its own
- therefore there is no use in posting the same link to the wiki again (first time not read, second time usually will not work either)
- solution: try it with moving pictures. When someone has an issue reading (and I acknowledge that some people actually miss proper reading skills, have bad eyesight or otherwise, not just to mock)
- If someone truly has an issue with reading (again, quite possible) then besides the hints provided in the video itself (the lyrics are really suitable) it might give TS an idea to look for instruction video's on how to use Lazarus/Pascal.

Too much over-thinking, too harsh response ? Not sure. Not suitable as a response to a first poster ... ?  I can agree to that... hence why I started with "I should not be doing this" Rick-rolling, as suggested would have been inappropriate in my view as it doesn't add anything informative for TS (though I do realize that picking up on messages that are parts of the lyrics of a song isn't for everyone either but in that case you would have at least had a couple of minutes to enjoy the music/clip without doing any (other) harm).

Thus it is not as I am trying to be lazy and just put down an easy answer in an attempt to mock a person, though I do realize it might come across as such.

If TS is truly a first poster with an intention to take his intentions seriously then I do apologize to TS with the suggestion to perhaps start a new thread asking the same question (I will stay out of it) as I have polluted this thread with all my garbage.
