Ahhh, those good old times with Windows XP...
Whether it could handle hardwares of our age? As far as I know, XP e.g. doesn't support SSD.
I have an old Lexmark X1290 printer, but its driver only supports Windows XP. Although I managed to download another driver, but it also only manages Windows 7, therefore I have an old laptop too with Windows 7 only for printing.
If XP would support SSD, which is in my laptop, I would rather use that instead of Windows 7 - even for the sake of the games.  :D

XP supports SSD's provided it is SATA type.
I have an old laptop running on a 40GB SSD. (inherited from my mum, full of precious stuff for the family. And she was a pretty good amateur Object Pascal programmer until she left us aged 89,5 two years ago)
Works slow, not because of XP but because of hardware specs, but perfectly fine. It runs XP 32 bit.

IiRC for SSD life you had to set some registry keys to avoid some behaviours that could increase the number of writes (like defrag). Also remember that the flash of older SSD's can have a larger number of writes than newer ones.

IIRC I just plugged in the SSD and re-installed the OEM supplied XP32 from DVD.
I did not change, nor cared for, registry settings.
The number of writes were probably well within its margin. But indeed, it is an early generation of SSD, hence the size. And possibly less used then average.

Like others, I have some legacy hardware that is compatible with XP, so a year or so ago I downloaded an XP ISO (from here, I think:  https://isoriver.com/windows-xp-iso-download/) as a back up for an old PC running Win2000.  I've not tried to install/use it yet.

Did you try Win7 drivers under Win10 or 11? There is a chance they will work. I remember I had a scanner with drivers for Windows 95 and NT 4 something and used those NT drivers just fine under Windows XP.

I have Windows XP, 7, and 11 installed on VirtualBox. Normally I use 7 to compile and test Free Pascal/Lazarus applications. I suppose most of my end users are on 11 now though, so XP is not critical for me.

some machines in industrial enviroment use DOS and WINXP. And siemens have some realtime kernels for winXP. Such machines are forbidden to use updates and cannot upgraded, because special HW drivers are used.

Indeed, hence I mentioned ATM's.
