I would guess that when you used Laz 2.0.12 that was using Carbon.
While now you likely are using Cocoa.

And that could also be a reason for the difference.

No, it runs Cocoa.

Definitely because of all issues with Lazarus, I moved (temporarely) to Microsoft Visual Code, it runs and debugs smoothly.  At least to code and if I need to build "visually" I'll use Lazarus.

I didn't read all the topic, only 1st post. You need the Cocoa patch from bugtracker. Find it by words "IME" and "cocoa". I attach changed LCL files.
Thank you AlexTP, I patched but didn't work.  I still cannot write ^ ~ á é í ó ú... etc, but it's only on the source editor, turns that inside properties that handle basic components p.e. TMemo I can write well...
