@Thaddy
Not quite sure but AFAIK in Ukraine and Russia the Christmas Eve is celebrated on 6-th of January.
Ex-Yugoslavian orthodox churches too.
btw. it is 24. December, but it is Julian calendar in use in these churches. WWI interrupted the reformation of the calendar, and later nobody cared to do anything about it.

Merry X-mas and Happy New Year!!!

It is not about the Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, it is about that the Eastern Orthodox Churches are celebrating on different dates, some according to Gregorian others to Julian calendar.

Весела Коледа и Честита Нова Година на всички!

I know that, and you know that. And I'm intimately familiar with the difference between Julian and Gregorian. And I'm aware of the recent problems in the ukraine between the various branches of the Eastern Church.

But I'd far prefer it if we could agree on something which didn't have "Eastern vs Western" in it, and which didn't detract from the status of Ukraine as an internationally-recognised country.

I am, of course, also familiar with some of the pre-Christian interpretations of the significant points of the year, including some of the interpretations of the drawings at Lascaux and so on. I'd suggest that this is not the appropriate place to start arguing that.

So could we stick to wishing each other "Season's Greetings" Please?

Nope. Equation of time is zero. It conveniently sidesteps all this "we are the custodians of the One True Calendar" malarkey :-)

The moment religion gets into something... it gets royally f-ed up.

Whatever your religion is... Merry Christmas! (and celebrate it just because you like to be happy, not because _supposedly_ something important happened on that day about 2000 years ago.)

oh yeah... happy new year too!

(FPC v3.0.4 and Lazarus 1.8.2) or (FPC v3.2.2 and Lazarus v3.2) on Windows 7 SP1 64bit.

I understand "the Sun is overhead at 12:00:00" as "the Sun is at zenith", am I not right?
And Equation of time is zero (and not at 12:00:00, 2022.12.25 at 12:00:00 it is -0.05 min, taken from https://planetcalc.com/9198/) 4 times in a year.

Yes, I agree that my choice of "overhead" was a bit on the sloppy side. But I do find all this seasonal posturing a bit infuriating at times, particularly when the people who make the most fuss about it are the ones most likely to forget what's actually being celebrated.

When I was a lad decorations went up on Christmas Eve and came down at Epiphany. And cards posted on Christmas Eve were delivered Christmas Day. And a substantial part of the population went to church to celebrate.
