With Debian Bookworm/Testing, if the IDE (2.2.4 GTK2) has been running for an extended period (days) it will sometimes fill e.g. the search form with black. Closing the form and reopening- possibly doing that more than once- is OK.

I've not, at least yet, seen that affecting e.g. the form editor. However that might be because once opened I rarely close it.

I suspect that I didn't see that before I upgraded the computer, and I think that I did have 2.2.4 running for a while on the (much) older OS.

/If/ this is related, then it points the finger at the change from GTK 2.24.32 to 2.24.33.

Wow, thats a nasty bug.  Does that happen if you are actively using the IDE during the "days" period or is it  being idle for that time that causes the problem ? Where, perhaps screen savers / screen locks have cut in and not being recovered from ?

I have noted a tendency for Ubuntu 22.04+ to not recover from screen saver "sometimes" when running in a VM under Virtual Box but thats the whole (virtual) machine. I don't (or, so far have not) see the same problem with Testing.

In my case: I'd left the IDE running for at least a couple of days, and was doing some tidying up yesterday. I used "search all files" several times in succession, and something like the second and third attempts only presented a black window (border etc. roughly as expected) while the first and subsequent were OK.

This wasn't the start of the day, and the screen savers etc. were disabled. I /might/ have seen one or two other programs on occasion behaving similarly although I can't remember enough to reproduce things.

Desktop in this case is KDE, but Lazarus had been built locally using GTK2 ("bigide").

I suspect that this particular one is recent, i.e. only with the upgraded GTK. As I've mentioned in another thread I've seen problems with the previous version where the editable text field of a listbox wasn't being updated (left white until forcibly redrawn), and I suspect that there's a related problem still in some dialog(ue)s where the filename part is left white but the extension is OK.

I'm currently getting the "black window problem" quite a lot from various programs, not just the Lazarus IDE. It looks very much as though it's something to do with Qt (as used by Debian/testing's KDE) or GTK2.
