Best practice for component, package documentation sources and build

Is there any best practice (or good model) for

- locating documentation sources in package source repo;

- building documentation files to work well with Lazarus IDE?

i.e.:

- keep documentation sources in fpdoc subdirectory, docs/xml directory, any preference?

- build using makefile, run an "execute after" command?

...so I'm thinking of documentation for an in-IDE design-time package, not an end-user executable.
