FPC on IRIX

(1/1)

praetor:
Howdy y'all

I'm a seasoned Pascal user as it was my first language, and my first computer that was mine was a SIlicon Graphics Indigo. And I'd LOVE to have pascal on an SGI. Particularly Freepascal because of all the fun units and library availability. I know there is a port for Linux MIPS, but how hard would that be to take that and make it IRIX MIPS? I'm a excellent Pascal programmer, but I'm very weak on assembler. I've tried to learn it for years and it just doesn't stick.

I'm also active in the SGI retro scene and other people would like a port.

How can we make this happen?

Thanks!

Hello praetor,
Welcome to the forum.

I don't know much about IRIX. I searched the web, know it has been discontinued for a long time. Anyway, I think you may want to know this:

Welcome aboard, I no longer have an SGI but have wondered myself about this in the past. Note Handoko's comment and supplied link, the important thing is that there are files in the RTL which will need to be tailored to suit syscall numbers, stat format and so on... that stuff's /comparatively/ easy for somebody with a good understanding of the OS and calling conventions.

Thank you gentlemen! That should get me started! Thanks!

I'd be keen to test this on some of my gear. Which version of IRIX are you targeting and which ABI?

I have some O2's and an Octane2, all of them are running 6.5.30f  (the 'f' is particularly important these days ;)
