Polished version of the Cheetah gif.
« on: March 02, 2021, 07:25:14 pm »
Hi, everybody!

I first encountered Free Pascal in 1998 or 1999, when browsing everything Pascal on the net. I've used Turbo Pascal since 2.0, on CP/M, in Orwell's Year, 1984. (In 2000, I switched to D (aka Dlang).)

The first time I saw the Cheetah logo I thought "How cool is that!" -- But ever since that day I've had a hard time accepting how it moves unnaturally. I wished I had the know-how and tools to do something about it. And ever since, when checking the site, It's been a pet peeve of mine.

During the years I have converted quite a few people to Free Pascal. (D is not for every use case.)

-----

Now, the other day it occurred to me that I now have the tools and skills to do the job.

The thing you notice when watching a real Cheetah run and hunt is that it keeps its head still and level!

I fixed that, and tried to otherwise not change the logo.

-----

Legalese: I give the Copyright to my changes to the logo to the Free Pascal Community.

Also: I fully understand there are a ton of reasons to /not/ update the logo. But just in case, find my file attached to this post.

Thank you!

AlexTP

I 'd vote for __some__ head movement, because when I see
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xaV1_M2j200
the head moves a little.

I agree. The head is too stable. It's not natural. However your animation is fine.

Totally agree with AlexTP and Blaazen. Fine animation, but completely fixed head is unnatural.

I totally disagree with the comments so far :) It revised GIF looks more realistic to me. Yes, I watched the video.

If only then slightly backward and forward movement of head should be added.

(at 2:51 it's all about free pascal)

It's really satisfying to look at this new cheetah movements.

Stabilization is never ideal. And in the videos provided it is not ideal too. So, some slight movements msut be.

Could you provide an animated scalable vector graphic (SVG)? Then it can easily be scaled for mobile, normal screens or huge displays while it still looks fine on all ;)

I’ve “improved” the logo.  :D :P

[…]
The first time I saw the Cheetah logo I thought "How cool is that!" -- But ever since that day I've had a hard time accepting how it moves unnaturally. […] And ever since, when checking the site, It's been a pet peeve of mine.[…]
I actually hate it, but I hate all kinds of fast and restless GIF animations. I have the logo blocked because of that.
Yours Sincerely
Kai Burghardt

Hi!

Here you have the version with a bobbing head. Is this better?
