Missed directories after installing Lazarus
« on: January 11, 2021, 12:04:02 am »
I installed Lazarus Free Pascal to try and figure out it, but when I ran it I found a problem that a configure window of Lazarus searching for "rtl" directory and don't find it, also a "fpcsrc" directory "/usr/share/fpcsrc/3.0.4/" was mentioned and I searched for it and I didn't find it at that mentioned location.

I installed Lazarus by command mentioned in this page: https://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/Install_on_Ubuntu

Code: Pascal  [Select][+][-]
  1. apt-get install lazarus
  2.

My OS is Linux Mint

Code: Pascal  [Select][+][-]
  1. apt-get install fpc
works and lazarus-ide works now.

For
Code: Pascal  [Select][+][-]
  1. apt-get install fpc-src
I have this message from terminal:

Quote
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package fpc-src is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
However the following packages replace it:
  fpc-source-3.0.4

E: Package 'fpc-src' has no installation candidate

Some previous versions of Ubuntu were known to have problem with Lazarus installation. I haven't tested seriously but recent versions seem okay to me, I'm using Ubuntu Mate 20.04 and Lazarus 2.0.10.

Do you use Ubuntu? If yes, I believe it should be easier for you to install Lazarus from deb files. On the wiki page you mentioned on the first post, there you can find the link to Install on Ubuntu from .deb files.

Did you first do an apt-get update? I'm not saying it's /the/ answer in the current case but that fixes a substantial proportion of that type of problem.

What that is basically telling you is that the package is not named: fpc-src but fpc-source, so do:
Code: Bash  [Select][+][-]
  1. apt-get install fpc-source
and you're done, at least with respect to completing your install. But that shouldn't be needed: installing Lazarus should have pulled also all the needed dependencies, including the compiler and its sources.

Anyway, Handoko is right: you'll be better off downloading and installing (e.g. using GDebi) the official packages from  lazarus-ide.org; if nothing else you'll at tleast get the latest releases of everything.

Definitely worth checking with  apt-cache search -n fpc  in that case.
