Backtick chars cannot be entered?

I got such report for CudaText

Someone pls check in SynEdit, in Lazarus IDE. I will do it later.

I can enter it w/out problems on Lazarus (SynEdit?) on these systems:
* Windows XP/7/10 - 32 bits
* Linux 32 and 64 bits (various [K|L|X]Ubuntu versions)

Tested on five machines with Spanish keyboards, in case it matters.

ETA: Never mind, I didn't see this is a MacOS issue; sorry :-[

I don't repro this on macOS 10.8.
User sees this on macOS Big Sur.
