LNet - LTCP and Lazarus licensing questions
« on: August 10, 2020, 05:07:25 pm »
Hi,
Does the Lazarus license allow using it in commercial projects?

And question about LNet: it's modified LGPL license. Do I need to provide sources if I want to use it in commercial projects?

Information about the license of Lazarus and FPC can be found here: https://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/licensing

As I understand this (someone correct me if I'm wrong):
Things produced with Lazarus, FPC using the LCL, RTL and FCL can be under any license you wish, commecial, whatever.

But you redistribute modified versions of the LCL RTL or FCL you need to publish this again under the same license with a reference to the original.

So basically using Lazarus or FPC with their libraries to write your own programs gives you pretty much the freedom to do what you want, but you can't just take Lazarus and FPC and their libraries and sell them as your own.

LNET as being under a modified LGPL license has probably the same conditions

So, in terms of lazarus: if I don't modify the code and (for example) don't include it in my repositories, I can set my license to any I want?

About lNet: I found a LICENSE.ADDON file. It says:
Quote
- object files and libraries linked into an application may be
  distributed without source code.
So I think I can use my application in commercial purposes even without source code, right?
