Lazarus IDE breaks cinnamon
« on: May 25, 2020, 01:52:40 pm »
Good morning guys

I'm using Lazarus 2.0.8 with linux mint 19.3, with cinnamon and some times when a press, for example F2 to rename some component, or when I'm changing throw the code and the interface, the screen locked and after some seconds cinnamon restore alerting about it's in recuperation mode and ask for restart.
Somebody has this problem?

Thank you very much in advance

Hello,

on a Ubuntu 18.04 LTS workstation, I always work with the Cinnamon files manager called Nemo (amo more advanced and "user friendly" than Nautilus which is the official manager shipped with Ubuntu): I've never encountered this problem.
use: Linux 64 bits (Ubuntu 20.04 LTS).
Lazarus version: 2.0.4 (svn revision: 62502M) compiled with fpc 3.0.4 - fpDebug \ Dwarf3.

Perhaps F2 key has some global assignment in the desktop manager?

It's occurred since version 1.6. If I use mate or xfce do not occurs the problem.

On Manjaro with cinnamon I have a similar problem, sometimes lazarus freezes the whole DE. For example when using anchordocking it's like playing russian rulette with your current session. When it freezes I have to boot up the console and manually restart x11 (which kills all GUI applications currently running).

Also it sometimes freezes when new windows pop up (maybe this is related to your F2 problem) but unlike the anchor docking problem It will work again after 30 seconds or so (and hammering random keys on the keyboard, but I don't know if this actually fixes the problem or is unrelated, I do it never the less).

Happens so infrequent that it is no problem to me, but I can confirm that the lazarus and cinnamon combination has some problems

Hello.

Cinnamon is bugged.
Cinnamon dont want to fix their bug.
Cinnamon may damage your hardware.
Cinnamon should be avoided.
