Hello everyone.

I think it might be useful to add, on the well-come page of the "Portal:New Users", something like:
  • In case you have not found the answer to your question in this guide (wiki), do not hesitate to ask questions in the forum (after registering in case you have not already done so).
  • Add an appropriate link to a page explaining the basic rules to follow to ask questions in the forum.

Otto.
Kind regards.

By the end of next week, the Wiki's main Page should resemble pretty closely this mockup .

This new main page lists the mailing lists, IRC channel and the Forums, along with a link to how to use the Forums.

On the reasonable assumption that New Users will arrive at the Wiki main page, do you think we need to also add the Forums link and how to use to the New Users Portal page?

I am 50:50 whether to do so or not, so sitting on the fence and needing a nudge to go one way or the other ;)

Hi!

Bravo Trev!

I think for newbies there should be as much information as possible.
So give them a Howto for the Portal Page.
And link this forum.
There also exists the german forum: https://www.lazarusforum.de/portal.php
If the Brasilian Forum still exists I dont know. Lack of language.

And there should be a link to the fpc-docs: https://www.freepascal.org/docs.html

That page I missed 25 years ago!

@trev
Great, the new version of the Partale is really a huge improvement.
I will translate into Italian as soon as possible.

On the reasonable assumption that New Users will arrive at the Wiki main page, do you think we need to also add the Forums link and how to use to the New Users Portal page?

(-: Now I've gone into reflection mode :-)

Your doubt is shared by me too.

There are already 4 languages for "Portal:New Users": English, Russian (thanks to Zoltanleo), Spanish (thanks to lucamar) and Italian; at this point I would propose to put something similar to a banner on the main page of the forum (or in www.lazarus-ide.org) that will point to the new version of the portal when it is ready.

Otto.
Kind regards.

Thanks for everyone's translations of the New User Portal page.

I'm still thinking about Otto and winni suggestions to also add the forums... anyone else have an opinion?

I believe it would be a good idea to emphasis the idea that new users are very welcome on the forum too.  Does not need to say much, a few words would be enough to reassure them its appropriate to post new user type questions.

Hello everyone.

Which offline program, for Windows or Linux, to edit mediawiki pages would you recommend me?

I have updated the "Resources" section page in both Italian and Spanish.
I hope the following Spanish translation goes well:

Para aquellos que necesitan ayuda adicional
  • Lazarus Forums - Los nuevos usuarios siempre son bienvenidos
  • Cómo utilizar el Foro De Lázaro - Consejos útiles para nuevos usuarios

Otto.
Kind regards.

I hope the following Spanish translation goes well:
[...]

Just a couple things:
1) Don't tranlate Lazarus to Lázaro. Since it's a proper name it shouldn't be.
2) Be coherent in what you translate and what not: for example, if you say "forum" in one phrase, don't translate it to "foro" in the next. Either use always the original (which in this case, as a latin word, is alright) or translate it everywhere.

Anyway, I'll give it a look when I have a little more time to correct (or make "more correct") the page ;)
Turbo Pascal 3 CP/M - Amstrad PCW 8256 (512 KB !!!) :P
Lazarus/FPC 2.0.8/3.0.4 & 2.0.10/3.2.0 - 32/64 bits on:
(K|L|X)Ubuntu 12..18, Windows XP, 7, 10 and various DOSes.

Hello lucamar.
You're perfectly right.

(which in this case, as a latin word, is alright)

Hello trev.

Very well, now your work can be used by all users and will give greater visibility to the wikis of the FPC/Lazarus-IDE Project. Especially, it will be easier to identify categories.

Otto.
Kind regards.
