I just want to know: who is afraid of what so that a thread gets censored?

I know that this story could lead to yet another endless discussion. But deleting the thread instead of locking it? This is not much better than what Pilot Logic is doing (they banned the user, but his thread at least can be read by everybody, locked though).
Mainly Lazarus trunk / fpc 3.2.0 / all 32-bit on Win-10, but many more...

If it was reported as SPAM (and indeed turned out to be SPAM) then the thread or post will simply be deleted. I've reported quite some SPAM posts in the past already and they're usually quickly dealt with.

Don't behave so Trumpish.

which is a spam message in this forums especially since the CT made clear that they want to stand alone.

PS. you post was reported as spam as well.

I deleted it.

That's what happen a new thread directly spawns after the old one was locked, and contained two incendiary posts not directly related to lazarus but with links to external troubles (codetyphon and the old jon lennart aasenden discussions about it).

Both of which discussions btw that were deemed offtopic on this forum in the past, and leading to locked threads multiple times. Also both subjects that have seen 100+ posts on this forum without resolving anything, and the posters of the original threads have been told to take it to their forums not rehash it here.  Consider this a reminder.

If a thread has real content I can be bothered to preserve it. If it only tries to jumpstart old discussions, there is no need, as the old threads and discussions were actually preserved.

Hi!

I did not know that I opened Pandora's Box.

But there are a lot of new forum members which might not know about the whole discussion.

And so it is not good for comminications to cut them off from the discussion.

And it is not democratic!

Well, you reopened it.

If the potential discussion is off-topic and has led to endless unresolved flame wars here and elsewhere in the past, it is much better to stop the discussion before it even starts.

I'm not sure what you mean by this, except that you are not being allowed to pursue here an incendiary off-topic theme that is of interest to you.
You can discuss it to your heart's content elsewhere.
Democracy is government  by the people.
Here the people accept moderation as part of the governance.
It is a (good and necessary) condition for civilised and focused debate about topics which are relevant to Lazarus and Free Pascal.

But there are a lot of new forum members which might not know about the whole discussion.
And for them there is a recent (just a few days old) thread. It is locked, but they can read up on it.

And it is not democratic!
That is an odd remark.... Why would or should it?
Even in a democracy (unless it is socialist or similar) the concept of ownership exists. Car manufactures decide what cars (colors, length, ...) they produce. They own the factory, they decide. No public vote.

The forum is for the public, but not owned by the public.
It is provided for on-topic discussions (and usually the judgment on what is allowed is very lenient, compared to most other forums).

Sometimes it is borderline what is or is not "on topic".

But as pointed out: The past has shown that the particular topic will not yield any results or news. It will (not proven, but likely) quickly decent into a "rant" of personal opinions, and personal views about moral and ethics. None of that is on topic, nor helpful to anyone using FPC/Lazarus.

Maybe 1 in 100 posts on the issue would have been worth saving. But the moderation effort to remove the rest, would have been too much work (and created even more controversy).

Please feel free to setup your own forum for the continuation of the topic.

I did not know that I opened Pandora's Box.

I know you are a newer user. So I don't consider your posts or this discussion as something very bad. It is just that I don't want to have this discussion restarted again, and a very recent thread already had been moderated (locked)

Quote
But there are a lot of new forum members which might not know about the whole discussion.

And they see the discussions were locked. They could asked why they were locked instead of trying to rant again.

Moreover, nearly any normal forum or maillist FAQ (those that still have them, seems an outdated concept since the ones that need them most  don't read them) has a primary guideline that "if it fits better in a different board or forum, post it there".

And since this is about CT, CT is the best place.

Quote
And so it is not good for comminications to cut them off from the discussion.

If they were about discussing CT, they'd join CT.  You apparently want communication with CT and CT users, not Lazarus. Just because CT cuts them off doesn't mean that here is the appropriate place to discus it.

And the few bits relevant to Lazarus have been discussed ad nauseam in the old threads. Search and you will find.

Quote
And it is not democratic!

This forum is not democratic. If you had searched for elections you would have noticed there were none. And as Martin_fr said, the forum resources are 3rd party, and not owned by the public in the first place.

On the good side, we don't come after you for taxes like a good democracy does :-)
